About

Dora Stork is a Hungarian visual artist working primarily in encaustic and acrylic painting. Her works explore the intersection of materiality and metaphor, often drawing from social tensions, cultural memory, and urban symbolism. She builds her compositions through a layered, intuitive process—melting wax, applying heat, burning shellac, or painting in fluid gestures.

Raised in Pécs, and professionally trained in economics and cybernetics, Dora brings both analytical discipline and instinctive curiosity to her artistic practice. She uses exclusively her own handmade encaustic wax, developed through years of experimentation to achieve the desired texture, translucency, and durability – materials that now feel inseparable from her artistic voice.

Her art has been exhibited in Hungary, Belgium, France, Austria, Romania, and the United Kingdom. In 2023, she was a selected artist at the London Art Biennale, one of the UK’s most prestigious international exhibitions. She is an active member of several artist societies and regularly exhibits at their dedicated venues, including Dávid Art Gallery (Fine Arts Capital Art Society) and Újpest Gallery (Újpest Artist Society), where she has shown work every year since 2009.

She has also held solo exhibitions in Budapest and smaller Hungarian towns, including the Secret Gallery, the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library, and the Community Centre in Mátraalmás.

Dora currently lives and works in Budapest, where she continues to develop her distinctive encaustic technique and exhibit her works across national and international platforms.
